Tuvieron que pasar seis años para que Christina Aguilera regresara a la música con nuevo material: se trata de Liberation, su octavo álbum de estudio en el que se mete en el hip hop y R&B, y se expresa con todo luego de ser parte de The Voice.
El disco cuenta con 11 canciones y con una lista de productores que van desde Kanye West y Anderson .Paak, hasta colaboraciones con Demi Lovato, Ty Dolla $ign y 2 Chainz. El trabajo estará disponible el 15 de junio y marcará su primer disco en seis años tras Lotus (2012).
Aguilera dijo a Billboard que necesitaba un descanso luego de estar cerca de cinco años como entrenadora en The Voice. «Anhelaba la libertad. Cuando regresaba a casa simplemente me quitaba todo (el maquillaje, todo) y me inyectaba hip-hop, o Nirvana, ‘Creep’, Slayer. Cualquier cosa así para sacarme de esa zona, ese modo de TV», contó.
Según Billboard, Liberation se inclina más hacia el R&B y hip-hop que cualquiera de sus trabajos anteriores. Dentro de los detalles se adelanta que Kanye West produjo dos canciones, incluyendo «Maria», «una pieza pulsante e intrincadamente orquestada que incluye un sampler de Michael Jackson y una introducción extendida en la que Aguilera canta La novicia rebelde«, de acuerdo al medio estadounidense.
La otra canción que produjo el rapero es «Accelerate», que fue lanzada como anticipo este jueves 3 y en el que colaboran Ty Dolla $ign y 2 Chainz. Aguilera y West se conocieron en el estudio Shangri La de Rick Rubin en Malibú, California, unos meses antes de que el rapero publicara The Life of Pablo (2016).
«Siempre he sido un gran admirador de Kanye. Fuera de, ya sabes, sus aspectos controvertidos, solo creo que es un gran artista y creador de música y beatmaker», expresó Aguilera.
Junto con la publicación de Liberation, Aguilera pretende embarcarse en su primera gira en una década. La última fue Back to Basics en 2007, antes de entrar a The Voice. «Hacer gira es tan aterrador para mí, porque primero soy madre. Es parte de por qué me quedé en la posición en la que estaba (en The Voice). Es fácil sentirse cómodo en el mismo lugar y no tener que preocuparse por desarraigar a sus hijos», admitió.
Pero Aguilera quiere regresar a los escenarios por una razón especial: «Me he mantenido en un segundo plano, pero tiene que suceder. Estoy deseando volver y mostrarles a mis hijos lo que mamá realmente hace».
