Después de un año desde su anuncio, este martes 20 de marzo se publicó el primer anticipo de Nightflyers, la serie de George R. R. Martin basada en su novela espacial del mismo nombre.
Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala y Sam Strike protagonizan la producción de 10 episodios que se exhibirán en SyFy en el segundo semestre de 2018.
El proyecto está basado en la novela Nightflyers que el estadounidense publicó en 1985, establecida en el futuro en vísperas de la destrucción de la Tierra. La historia sigue a una tripulación de exploradores mientras viajan en la nave más avanzada de la galaxia, The Nightflyer, para interceptar otra que podría contener la clave de su supervivencia.
«Nightflyers es una historia de casa embrujada en una nave estelar», dijo Martin en el video con el primer anticipo. «Es como Psicosis en el espacio», agregó.
El productor ejecutivo y escritor de la serie, Jeff Buhler, aclaró que la temática será muy distinta a Game of Thrones, aunque sí afirmó que hay algunas semejanzas: «No tememos perder personas cuando funciona para la historia. Especialmente con el horror, es bueno saber que cualquiera puede irse en cualquier momento».
No será la primera adaptación de Nightflyers: en 1987, Robert Collector dirigió una película basada en la novela, protagonizada por Catherine Mary Stewart, Michael Praed, James Avery y John Standing.
Eso sí, debido a su contrato de exclusividad con HBO, Martin no participará en Nightflyers. Por ahora, el escritor se encuentra desarrollando lo que será la última temporada de Game of Thrones, que se estrenará en 2019.
